Ties are split by the unrounded score, then by review count. Every firm listed covers Glasgow, even where its base is outside the city.
Airdrie · Covers Glasgow and Lanarkshire
7.8out of 10
The only firm on our shortlist with a named manufacturer certification: Peter Digan is a British Gypsum Certified Plasterer. He scores 9.89 out of 10 across 140 Checkatrade reviews, has been a Checkatrade member since 2017 and says the business opened in 2005. It is the most complete package we found, from skimming to lath plastering and plaster mouldings.
Renfrew · Covers Glasgow and Renfrewshire
7.5out of 10
The busiest plasterer we found on any vetted platform, with 256 Checkatrade reviews averaging 9.77 out of 10, and 55 of them in the last year alone. Fraser McLellan has 20 years in the trade and is especially strong on outside work: roughcasting, K Rend, insulated and monocouche render.
Renfrew · Covers Glasgow and Renfrewshire
6.8out of 10
Near perfect at 9.96 out of 10 across 105 Checkatrade reviews. Duncan Thomson focuses on interior work, including lath plastering, flat ceilings, coving and cornice, and takes on insurance repairs, which makes him a good call after a leak or ceiling collapse.
Airdrie · Covers Glasgow and Lanarkshire
6.8out of 10
Callum Rodger lists CITB and CSCS qualifications, which lifts him on our vetting score, and Checkatrade reviewers rate him 9.96 out of 10. He has more than 16 years in the trade and one of the widest skill lists we saw, from lime and lath work to waterproof plastering and screeding.
Kingsley Court, Uddingston · Covers Glasgow and Lanarkshire
6.6out of 10
On reviews alone, the strongest plasterer we found: a perfect 5.0 from 194 Google reviews and another 5 out of 5 from more than 200 reviews on Yell. It drops to fifth because it does not use a vetting scheme, name any qualifications or say how long it has traded. Reviewers praise its work on artexed ceilings and collapsed lath and plaster.
Lubas Place, Southside (G42) · Covers Glasgow
6.5out of 10
The pick for period properties. This family run firm makes cornice and bespoke mouldings by hand in Glasgow using traditional methods, and specialises in restoring ornate plasterwork in period properties. It holds a perfect 5.0 from 115 Google reviews and says it has been established for more than ten years.
Glasgow · Covers Glasgow
6.5out of 10
A flawless 10 out of 10 from 62 Checkatrade reviews and a member since 2018. Mark Rooney offers one of the broadest ranges in the city, including lime plastering, polished plaster and every type of render. It loses a little on reviews because only three came in over the last year.
Bellshill · Works across the West End, including Broomhill, Hyndland and Partick
5.8out of 10
More than 30 years in plastering and dry lining, and a perfect 5.0 from 57 Google reviewers. His website lists Broomhill, Hyndland and Partick as his main areas, and he also runs a plastering training centre in Glasgow. Like most sole traders on Google, he does not use a vetting scheme, which holds his score back.
Rosshill Avenue, Mosspark (G52) · Covers Glasgow and Paisley
5.8out of 10
A perfect 5.0 from 56 Google reviews and, by its own account, more than 30 years in business. As well as skimming, repairs, dry lining and coving, it takes on full kitchen and bathroom renovations, so it suits jobs where the plastering is one part of a bigger refit.
Johnstone · Covers Glasgow and Renfrewshire
5.6out of 10
Radek Stan scores 9.98 out of 10 across 49 Checkatrade reviews, with 14 of them in the last year, and says he has more than 20 years of experience. Reviewers mention kitchens and full ceiling replacements. He has only been on Checkatrade since 2023, which keeps his track record score down for now.
Good firms that missed out on this edition
We built a long list from Google, Checkatrade, FreeIndex and the Trusted Trader scheme, then checked 20 firms in depth. Each got a score out of ten from the checks on the right. The table is that score, highest first.
Unlike electricians, plasterers have no official registration scheme in the UK. So instead of a trade register, our second check looks at whether a firm has been through independent vetting and names real qualifications. Responsiveness has not been tested yet for this first edition; scores are based on the other three checks, scaled to ten.
Volume and average rating on the main platform, credit for strong reviews on a second platform, and points off where reviews have dried up.
Independent vetting such as Checkatrade, Which? or TrustMark, plus named qualifications such as British Gypsum certification, CITB or CSCS.
Years trading, backed by Companies House or a platform join date where we could find one. Points come off for a website that no longer works or claims that do not add up.
Much of Glasgow's housing is sandstone tenements and villas built before the First World War, and plastering them is a different job from plastering a new build. A few questions up front will tell you whether a plasterer knows the difference.
Solid stone walls need to breathe. Historic Environment Scotland recommends lime based plaster for traditional buildings, because modern gypsum plaster can trap moisture in the wall. If your home is pre-war, ask whether the plasterer works in lime, and when they would use it.
Cracked lath and plaster ceilings can often be pinned and repaired rather than pulled down, which keeps the original cornice in place. A good plasterer will tell you which option suits your ceiling, not just the quicker one.
In our 2026 table, PWD Plastering scores highest, with 7.8 out of 10. It is a British Gypsum Certified Plasterer with 9.89 out of 10 from 140 Checkatrade reviews. For the most reviews, look at AT Plastering Services. For cornices and period plasterwork, look at Glasgow Plastering.
Many of the best plasterers who work in Glasgow live in Renfrewshire and Lanarkshire. Every firm in this table covers Glasgow. We list where each one is based so you know how far they travel.
No. Nobody can buy a place in the table. Some firms pay to be on Checkatrade, but that is their own choice, and it only counts here because Checkatrade checks their identity, insurance and references.
Plasterers have no official trade register to confirm, and few name formal qualifications, so most score lower on our second check. The scores are fair to compare between plasterers, not across trades.
