Why they rank

  1. Number 1: PWS Electrical Services & Solar

48 West George Street, City Centre · Covers Glasgow and central Scotland

    8.9out of 10

The biggest review footprint of any Glasgow electrician we checked, with 665 Google reviews and another 206 on Trustpilot, both averaging 4.9. It specialises in house and flat rewires and backs them with a 15 year workmanship guarantee. It loses points on track record because its website gives three different figures for how long it has traded and does not name the company behind the brand.

How we scored this table

We built a long list from Google, Which? Trusted Traders, the Trusted Trader scheme and Checkatrade, then checked 20 firms in depth. Each got a score out of ten from the checks on the right. The table is that score, highest first.

Responsiveness, our fourth check, has not been tested yet for this first edition. Scores here are based on the other three checks, scaled to ten. We will add it at the next review.

Before you hire an electrician in Glasgow

Electrical work is one of the few trades where a bad job is invisible until it goes wrong. These checks take five minutes and are worth doing for any firm, including the ones on this page.

Check the register, not the logo

Anyone can put a logo on a van. Search the firm's name on the SELECT or NICEIC register before you book. SELECT is Scotland's own electrical trade association. Both bodies assess their members' work regularly.

Ask for a certificate when the job is done

New circuits, fuse boards and rewires should come with an electrical installation certificate. For smaller jobs, ask for a minor works certificate. Keep them with your home's paperwork; a buyer's solicitor may ask for them.

Know the Scottish rules

  • Landlords need an Electrical Installation Condition Report (EICR) at least every five years under the Repairing Standard.
  • Every home in Scotland must have interlinked fire alarms: a smoke alarm in the living room and in every hallway and landing, a heat alarm in the kitchen, and a carbon monoxide alarm next to any fuel burning appliance.
  • Bigger jobs may need a building warrant. An electrician registered as an Approved Certifier of Construction, through SELECT or NICEIC, can certify that their work meets the building regulations, which saves a separate inspection.

Questions

Who is the best electrician in Glasgow?

In our 2026 table, PWS Electrical Services & Solar scores highest, with 9.5 out of 10. It has a 5.0 average from 604 Google reviews, is a confirmed SELECT member and has traded since 2016. For a full house rewire, Home Rewire Glasgow, ML Electrical Rewiring and Project Rewire are all specialists.

Did any of these electricians pay to be listed?

No. Nobody can buy a place in the table. Firms can send us their accreditation numbers to be assessed at the next review, and that is free.

Why is a firm with more reviews ranked below one with fewer?

Reviews are worth four of the available points, not all of them. A firm we could confirm on the SELECT or NICEIC register, with a long, clean trading history, can outscore a firm with more reviews but weaker paperwork.

How often is this table updated?

Once a year. Each annual edition is a full review of every firm, and from the 2027 edition the movement column will show who has climbed or dropped since the year before.
